TROY – The state should investigate a Republican town justice's resignation as politically motivated involvement in a plan to secure the Independence Party line for Assemblyman Steven McLaughlin in the November general election for Rensselaer County executive, the Democrat candidate said Friday."The news that a duly elected judge – who is also a county employee – has suddenly decided not to complete his term as part of political deal to vacant a name from the ballot on November 7 is troubling," Andrea Smith said in a statement issued by her campaign.
