AKRONSobriety checkpoint arrestsAKRON: A pair of sobriety checkpoints on Friday night in Akron netted five arrests on charges of impaired driving.In total, 569 vehicles passed through the checkpoints, which were held in the 1500 block of Brittain Road and the 900 block of East Tallmadge Avenue.Thirteen other people were arrested or cited on charges of driving under suspension, driving without a license, possessing an open container of alcohol in a vehicle or on an outstanding warrant for domestic violence charges.In addition, nine vehicles were impounded as part of the arrests.Police did not release the locations of the checkpoints ahead of time.Couple defend homeAKRON: An Akron couple held an alleged burglar at gunpoint Sunday morning while police hurried to their Cordova Avenue home.DeJuan McCraney, who was convicted of attempted aggravated murder in 2001, was arrested and charged with aggravated burglary and having a weapon illegally.The couple, a 61-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman, told police they were sleeping when they heard a noise at about 7 a.m.
