Daily Journal The unemployment rate for Northeast Mississippi fell to 3.9 percent in February, the lowest since the turn of the millennium. According to preliminary figures provided by the Mississippi Department of Employment Security, the region’s labor force – the number of people working and actively seeking employment – swelled to 231,040 in February, nearly 3,000 more than in January. MDES figures estimate about 9,000 were unemployed, bringing down the jobless rate from 5.4 percent in January and down from 5.5 percent a year ago. The county figures aren’t adjusted for seasonal events like holidays and back to school.
