Singer-songwriter Judy Collins, a self-proclaimed Colorado girl, is now a goodwill ambassador for Rocky Mountain National Park, according to the Rocky Mountain Conservancy, the park’s nonprofit partner.
“We are hoping that her role as goodwill ambassador reminds all of the folks who have been to Rocky Mountain National Park, tens of millions over the years, that they have an opportunity to feel connected to this special place and think about how to pay it forward for this national park,” Estee Rivera Murdock, the nonprofit’s executive director, told The Denver Post in an interview on Tuesday.
As an ambassador, Collins promotes the Rocky Mountain Conservancy, which is responsible for the park’s trail work, conservation efforts and educational programming.
Democrat John Walsh’s victory in this week’s primary election all but ensured he’ll be Denver’s next district attorney.
In a conversation with The Denver Post on Thursday, the former U. S. attorney for Colorado discussed his vision for the Denver District Attorney’s Office and his approach to violent crime, drug prosecutions and racial disparities in the criminal justice system.
After the general election this November — a formality since there are no challengers in the race — Walsh will replace current District Attorney Beth McCann in January for a four-year term.
The conversation has been edited for length and clarity.
Q: You’ve said addressing Denver’s violent crime is one of your top priorities once you take office.
At first glance, if you search for Winnipeg, Manitoba, on a map, it appears to be in the middle of nowhere. That’s because it kind of is: the next-closest big city is Minneapolis — and it’s 450 miles away.
Look closer, however, and you will see that Winnipeg is also uniquely located smack dab in the middle of North America: in the heart of the continent.
And despite its geographical isolation — some will say it’s as a result of it — Winnipeg, which is celebrating its 150-year birthday in 2024, has matured into a cosmopolitan city that is a cauldron of creativity.
Just one Democrat has represented Colorado’s ultra-Republican 4th Congressional District in the last half-century, but that Democrat — former U. S. Rep. Betsy Markey — thinks lightning could strike again in the district that sprawls across the Eastern Plains.
“This is a tough hill to climb, but if Trisha has a solid get-out-the-vote campaign, and the top of the ticket performs well, she has a good shot at this,” said Markey, who represented the 4th District from for a single term, from 2009 to 2011.
Trisha is Trisha Calvarese, a 37-year-old labor activist and speechwriter from Highlands Ranch who has helped run political campaigns in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts.
Turnovers come in bunches, but turnover is the only true constant in the NFL.
The Broncos defense has learned both lessons in recent years.
Their 18-takeaway bonanza fueled a five-game winning streak in 2023. But the constant churn of coaches and personnel also played a part in the group’s hideous start to the fall.
Dear Eric: One of my closest friends has a toddler and when we’re making plans, she will often ask if she should leave her toddler at home with her husband. Oftentimes when I say yes, I would enjoy just catching up with her, she lets me know that leaving her toddler is not really a viable option.
I feel like I am being a bad friend now when I state my preference for having a child-free hang-out.
