Rain showers are predicted today for the Sacramento region, and periods of heavy snowfall are expected in the Sierra Nevada. The storm is part of a series of systems forecasters say will visit the region during the next few days. A scattering of showers overnight produced measurable rainfall in some locations, including .12 of an inch in Elk Grove, .08 at Folsom Lake, .04 in Roseville, .08 at Sacramento State, .04 in Loomis, .24 in Auburn and .04 in Woodland. A high of 59 degrees is expected today with winds forecast about 15 mph in the Sacramento area. At higher elevations, a winter storm warning remains in effect until 6 p.m.
