Associated Press INDIANAPOLIS – Academic misconduct may soon have its own section in the NCAA rule book. New legislation announced Friday by the NCAA proposes tougher academic integrity policies and sets expectations for athletic department staff and athletes. If the proposal by the Division I Council passes next April it will be an NCAA violation whenever a coach or staffer is involved in academic misconduct. The proposal defines impermissible academic assistance as “substantial academic assistance” to athletes “not generally available to the school’s students” or not authorized by other Division I rules. It also rules out “creating an academic exception” for an athlete to improve a grade, earn credit or meet a graduation requirement.
