YAKIMA — A homeless encampment on city land could be allowed to operate year-round for the next two years. The Yakima Herald-Republic reports the proposal comes with a caveat — residents would have to vacate the camp every five months. Transform Yakima Together, the faith-based group that runs Camp Hope, has asked the Yakima City Council to allow it to operate the temporary camp year-round, instead of the mid-March to mid-November dates originally agreed upon. The proposed amendments to Transform Yakima’s lease would allow the camp to operate for five months, followed by a period of vacancy between two weeks to 45 days. The Yakima City Council is expected to vote on the idea at its Tuesday meeting.
