Power Thefts Lead To Arrest Of Stamford Man

STAMFORD — A city man has been accused of stealing electricity from his landlord and Eversource. Edgar Martinez, 42, was charged Thursday with second-degree larceny, third-degree larceny, reckless endangerment and criminal mischief and was held in lieu of a $50,000 court appearance bond. Property Crimes Sgt. Sean Scanlan said Martinez’s Hazel Street landlord discovered in April that someone rigged wires to tap into the complex’s electrical box to siphon power from Eversource. Scanlan said the lines ran directly into Martinez’s apartment.
