The attorney for Richard Schmelzer, charged with murdering his grandmother, is questioning a visit Tuesday by police to Schmelzer at the Kane County jail. He told a Kane County judge Wednesday that the officers talked to Schmelzer about his family and the case, while collecting his fingerprints. But East Dundee Police Chief Terry Mee said the officers were just there to get fingerprints as part of the department's booking process, since they weren't obtained when Schmelzer was extradited from Texas.
