A former death row inmate accused of abducting a family of four from Belmont appeared to randomly target them as they were fishing Friday evening at a popular spot, Gaston police said.Capt. Joe Ramey said the motive appeared to be robbery, but he said investigators were still trying to piece together exactly what happened and why.
