From the sounds of it, E. Hoke Smith, 67, was one of those colorful aviators they make movies about. Smith, 67, died Monday when the helicopter he was piloting on an organ transport mission crashed in Clay County. A Mayo Clinic heart surgeon and an organ procurement specialist died along with him in the morning crash. Smith started flying planes when he was a teenager, and the Army taught him how to fly helicopters in the early 1960s.
