The election for Palm Beach County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller is decidedly not high-profile, but the agency’s two core responsibilities, safeguarding public records and public money, give it an outside influence. The incumbent, Joseph Abruzzo, has a record on both that warrants a second term.
Abruzzo, 44, was elected clerk in 2020 after more than a decade in the Florida Legislature, where he served in the House and Senate.
The clerk’s office invests taxpayer money and has chalked up robust earnings under Abruzzo.
At first glance, Palm Beach County Mayor Maria Sachs and John Fischer, her challenger for the District 5 commission seat she holds, have similar concerns on housing, public safety and transportation.
District 5 is west of Florida’s Turnpike between the Broward line and Boynton Beach Boulevard and east of Florida’s Turnpike between Clint Moore Road and Boynton Beach Boulevard.
Swaths of this unincorporated district are open space, making it a magnet for developers.

TOKYO (AP) — An unexploded U. S. bomb from World War II that had been buried at a Japanese airport exploded Wednesday, causing a large crater in a taxiway and the cancellation of more than 80 flights but no injuries, Japanese officials said.
Land and Transport Ministry officials said there were no aircraft nearby when the bomb exploded at Miyazaki Airport in southwestern Japan.
Officials said an investigation by the Self-Defense Forces and police confirmed that the explosion was caused by a 500-pound U.

To volunteers like me, being in Florida’s Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program means defending residents of long-term care facilities, investigating and resolving issues to ensure that seniors’ health, safety, welfare and rights are protected.
The new Florida law banning people experiencing homelessness from sleeping or camping overnight on public property took effect Tuesday, putting local governments under a time crunch to come up with solutions to avoid being sued.
A concern for some is whether the new law means homeless people will be arrested solely for sleeping in public places.
Q: There is no blockbuster trade coming down the pike that’s going to magically transform this year’s Heat team. So isn’t our only hope for improvement needed from our current young players? What if Nikola Jovic becomes a true starter with improved play? And Jaime Jaquez Jr. takes another big step in his development?
