Deaths in the Horror and Action genres are to be expected, in a lot of films however characters just aren't dying like they should. I think this is part of the reason Game of Thrones and other television series are successful. I enjoyed The Hobbit but never in that movie was I worried Bilbo or the rest of his gang were going to die, or for that matter in JJ Abbram's Star Trek: Into Darkness IMAX preview - I just didn't care if Spock was surrounded by lava because odds are he is going to survive.
