JACKSON BIRD: I think it can be difficult for people to wrap their heads around gender, specifically cisgender people: people whose gender identity is congruent with the one that they were assigned at birth. It can be difficult for them because they've never had to question their gender, which is astonishing to those of us who are trans because we spend so much of our time questioning gender and thinking about in a very existential way and wondering why is gender, and what is gender, and how did this happen? [...] There's something in the trans community called "living stealth," and only some trans people even have this privilege.
