Over The Years, Cedar Key Has Looked Hurricanes In The Eye

An appreciation for the impact that hurricanes have had at Cedar Key begins at Atsena Otie, a 60-acre barrier island one half mile south of Cedar Key, accessible only by boat. It was here the federal government established a military outpost, hospital, and stockade in 1835 to wage the Second Seminole War.
