Opening Day, Where Hope Begins Again

STOCKTON — It was opening day, and Lynn Schimpf was ready. She showed up to Stockton Ballpark on Thursday under cloudy but nonthreatening skies, wearing a bright blue Ports sweatshirt and cap, and carrying her new scorebook as she sat down just to the third-base side of home plate along with her husband, Paul. The Stockton residents have this routine down as fans for at least 40 years, and wouldn’t consider missing an opening day.
