CHARLESTON, Ill. — The last Illinois survivor of a mostly forgotten World War II prisoner-of-war saga lives in a white farmhouse 7 miles north of town.Retired from grain farming since 1988, Alva Moss, 89, walks a narrow road, mows his lawn and plays tennis for exercise. And, he waits for recognition.
