HAYNES By Parrish Alford Daily Journal OXFORD – Senior defensive end Marquise Haynes was named the winner of the Chucky Mullins Courage Award at a Saturday morning banquet. Named for the late Ole Miss defensive back who was paralyzed during a 1989 game, the award honors a player who demonstrates leadership and character as well as performance. Haynes, a senior from Jacksonville, Florida, is third on the school’s career sacks list with 24 1/2, fourth on the tackles for loss list with 36 1/2. Haynes gave some consideration to entering the NFL draft early before deciding to return for his senior season. Elsewhere, linebacker Detric Bing-Dukes was named the Jeff Hamm Memorial Award winner as the spring’s most improved defensive player. Wide receiver Markell Pack was named the most improved offensive player. Sheppard makes a move Syracuse transfer defensive end Qaadir Sheppard moved from second team to first team over the last week of spring practice. Sheppard (6-3, 261) played briefly for the Orange in 2015 then sat out last season at Ole Miss.
