Okc Aims To Slow Traffic Through Nw 23's Busy Pedestrian Corridor

Signs advising motorists of the new speed limit have been up about a month. There were 128 collisions along the corridor between N Classen Boulevard and N Broadway Avenue in 2015, the last full year for which statistics are available, according to Oklahoma Department of Public Safety data. A review of three years' data turned up one accident involving a pedestrian. The speed limit had been 30 mph between N Classen and N Robinson Avenue, and 35 mph between Robinson and Broadway. In another step toward improving safety, signals are to be installed for a mid-block crosswalk at the Tower Theater, in the 400 block of NW 23. The city council has allocated $100,000 for the crosswalk. Data prepared for the Traffic Commission shows traffic peaks in the corridor between N Walker Avenue and N Hudson Avenue, with 29,192 vehicles per day counted in 2015.
