A Woodstock man was arrested Sunday after police said they found "psychedelic" mushrooms, cocaine, marijuana and several weapons, including a loaded firearm in his vehicle. William L. Kounanis, 65, of the 12600 block of Davis Road, remained at the McHenry County Jail Monday afternoon on a $200,000 bond. He is charged with possession with intent to deliver cocaine, possession of cocaine, possession with intent to deliver marijuana, felon in possession of a weapon, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. The most serious offense, possession with intent to deliver cocaine, typically is punishable by as many as 30 years in prison. Following a traffic stop, sheriff's officers found about 13 ounces of cocaine, 2 grams of psilocybin mushrooms and 3 ounces of marijuana, according to a suspected drug affidavit filed in McHenry County court. Officers estimated the street value of the seized drugs to be about $40,502. Kounanis, who previously served a prison sentence in Wisconsin, also was in possession of a loaded firearm, a switchblade knife and a baton with a spring attached, packaging materials, and $8,591 in cash, according to a motion prosecutors filed Monday. A prior felony conviction would have barred Kounanis from possessing a weapon. Kounanis had not hired a private attorney to represent him as of Monday afternoon, and McHenry County Public Defender's Office had not been appointed to the case, records show. Kounanis is scheduled to make a court appearance Wednesday at the McHenry County courthouse.
