MIAMI — Observations and other notes of interest from Sunday’s 128-107 victory over the San Antonio Spurs:
– For weeks, even months, Jimmy Butler has been asking to be surrounded by something better.
– Sunday, Butler had a front-row seat to something better.
– Granted, it was against a sub-.500 opponent.
– But once the Heat moved to a big lineup that had Kel’el Ware alongside Bam Adebayo, it was as if energy had been pumped back into the Heat season.
– Energy that had been deflated by Butler’s season of discontent.
– Does this change anything with Butler?
– Probably not.
– He is who he is.
– And there still is the matter of that contract extension that Pat Riley wouldn’t offer.
– And that Butler no longer seemingly will accept.
– But if the Heat can play big, if they can get this type of 3-point shooting at moments of truth, if Terry Rozier and Nikola Jovic can anchor the bench .
MIAMI — A sense of a drama has been in the air for weeks with the Miami Heat, and drama was exactly what was delivered Sunday at Kaseya Center.
Even more dramatic was the drama did not involve Jimmy Butler.
Instead, the waiting game for the next big thing for the Heat is over, delivered by coach Erik Spoelstra when he paired rookie 7-footer Kel’el Ware with starting center Bam Adebayo.
From there, good things, very good things, followed, with the Heat going from an early 13-point deficit to a 128-107 victory over the San Antonio Spurs.
“That was definitely the initial spark to the game,” Spoelstra said of the Adebayo-Ware pairing.
