PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Stigma, discrimination and ignorance of emerging science characterized the early days of the AIDS epidemic three decades ago, when a seemingly invincible virus caused suffering and death by the thousands, and hope seemed but a dream -- to those who even dared to envision a better tomorrow, and there were few such optimists then.Speakers recalled that cruel history during Sunday’s 31st AIDS Walk for Life, born during that period.
