Yasser Arafat was the first president of the Palestinian Authority (1996–2004), chairman of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), and leader of Fatah. In 1993 he led the PLO to a historic peace agreement with Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and the Israeli government. More @Wikipedia
