Bookmark or Share- tense - "I did try" or "I have tried"? - English Language Learners ...But did try would look better in a letter telling that you still haven't sorted out the problem, as a way to reassure them that you've indeed tried it. If you use "I have tried that" it will look ambiguous: the construction will leave them guessing when exactly did you try the solution: before you received their letter with the suggestion or after.
- "Can you please" vs. "Could you please" [duplicate]I disagree. I'd say they are for the most part equivalent. "Can you walk with me to my car" or, "Could you walk with me to my car" - equivalent. To make the distinction you are attributing to "Could", I'd use the word "Would", or perhaps/sometimes "Will".

- meaning - When to use "find" & when to use "look for"? - English ...Generally, we know that "look for" means "try to find" and "find" means "successfully get something after searching for it" My question is that . When to use "find" & when to use "look for"? For examples: could you go find Tommy? could you go look for Tommy? I want to find a good stone. I want to look for a good stone (does it sound strange?)
- prepositions - "Suggest me" or "Suggest to me" - English Language ...A similar question came up on EL&U, although I'm unable to find it. This also seems to be a new development in English. If you search in Google books for "explain to me this mystery", almost all the hits are from before 1900, while "explain this mystery to me" has many recent hits, as well as some older ones. –
