Bookmark or Share- plot explanation - Was the twist for the 75th Hunger Games ...Snow wanted Katniss and Peeta killed at the end of the Hunger Games, for their "stunt" with the berries. But Seneca Crane instead announced them as winners (and paid for it with his life). So now Snow is aware that both Peeta and particularly Katniss are symbols, and a threat. The film echoes the book in this regard, and to quote from the book:
- What happened to Seneca Crane at the end of the movie?Seneca Crane, the Head Gamemaker, was the one responsible for producing the Hunger Games. He's the one who thought of the trick to announce two winners, and then withdraw that rule, to further excite the viewers. But when Katniss bluffed her way out of the games with the poisonous berries, he was humiliated - him, and worse, President Snow.
- Why was it so important to have a victor in the Hunger Games?Snow asks Seneca "Why do you think we have a winner?" Because another alternative is that the Capitol could simply randomly round up 24 District kids between ages 12-18 and execute them together. The answer, according to Snow, is "Hope. It is the only thing stronger than fear. A lot of hope is dangerous. A little hope is effective.

As we all gather for dinner, I notice Peeta's hands are faintly stained with a variety of colors, even though his hair is still damp from bathing.
