All of the sentences express the same sort of thing: a command, a demand, a suggestion, etc. They use three different grammatical structures: subjunctive, or modal, or indicative.

"Have you read that new book by James Patterson?" would be a good example or "There is an entire series on the political development of western civilization by (enter said author)."
