Bookmark or Share- What would you call a person who doesn't want to learn anything new?@Kit, I think actually that this one is an exception since -minded (according to macmillan) is "used with some adjectives and adverbs to make adjectives describing the way someone thinks or their attitude to life" and from all other -minded entries: absent-, bloody-, broad-, close-, fair-, feeble-, high-, like-, narrow-, open-, right-, simple-, single-, small-, strong-, tough-, weak-, literal ...
- word usage - Can you use 'fun' as an adjective? - English Language ...I'm wondering whether adjectival usage is increasing. Whether it is regional (I'm guessing it's an American import); And whether, adjectivally, it is commoner to say funner and funnest, or more fun and most fun. The latter sound better to me, presumably because they are usages that are found when fun is used as a noun.
- "Poorer" vs. "more poor" - English Language & Usage Stack ExchangeI would like to added that although poorer is the correct version, the reason more poor is used many times in spoken English is because of the 'r' sound at the end of the sentence.
- Is "funnest" a word? - English Language & Usage Stack ExchangeFunner makes me shudder. For some reason "more fun" is firmly embedded in my psyche as the correct expression. "funnest" doesn't raise the same reaction, for reasons I don't understand. When someone says "it's funner", it makes me believe that there's been a lapse in their education.

But notice 1) that this is from a humorous work, and may be deliberately using a non-standard form; and 2) that it is within the idiomatic construction "not one of the X-er Ys", where it is recognisable as a comparative by the syntax.
