A deadly winter storm that dropped twisters onto the South on Christmas Day raced across the Northeast on Thursday, and bringing with it heavy snowfall, high winds and more canceled flights.

An enormous storm system that dumped snow and sleet on the nation's midsection and unleashed damaging tornadoes around the Deep South has begun punching its way toward the Northeast, slowing holiday travel.

A strong earthquake off the coast of Guatemala on Wednesday shook buildings in Guatemala City and San Salvador and was felt as far away as Mexico City, Reuters witnesses said, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
