A tornado destroyed dozens of homes and businesses in a small Mississippi community early Thursday, injuring several people and flattening a church although there were no immediate reports of fatalities.

Strong storms including at least three tornadoes damaged or destroyed homes in parts of the Midwest, and rainfall brought fears of more misery to areas hard-hit by flooding last year.

Emergency crews on Wednesday searched for survivors after a cluster of unusual tornadoes tore across Oklahoma, killing at least eight people in a town in the southern part of the state.
