Despite it's all-star cast, "Rock of Ages" ekes out $15.1 million opening; "That's My Boy" grosses $13 million, marking Adam Sandler's worst opening for a comedy in eight years... Instead, it was holdovers "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" and "Prometheus" that continued to top the chart, staying at No. 1 and No. 2 respectively with $35.5 million and $20.2 million.
Circus animals and space beasts have lifted Hollywood to a huge weekend. The cuddly critters of "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" led the weekend with a $60.4 million debut domestically, followed by a big opening for Ridley Scott's alien saga "Prometheus" at No.
In anticipation of this week’s opening of Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus,” which is set in the Alien universe and is a sort of a prequel, I went to BoxOfficeMojo.com to compile box office figures for the entire Alien franchise, excluding the two AVPs (“Alien vs. Predator”).
The Universal event pic is the first of the recent fairy tale retellings to win at the box office; Ridley Scott's "Prometheus" opens overseas to stellar $35 million from only 15 markets, nearly matching the $39.3 million grossed by "Snow White" from 45 territories.
"Prometheus" is landing in London. The world premiere of Sir Ridley Scott's new sci-fi thriller takes place in Leicester Square on Thursday night. Stars Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender and Guy Pearce will join the director by touching down on a special blue carpet to meet fans.

Senh: I think it has more to do with an R-rated horror film that cost $150M than Ridley Scott's "Prometheus." Although Guillermo Del Toro's track record at the box office is solid, he hasn't had a single film gross anywhere near $100M.
As promised, the new trailer for Prometheus is here. Check it out below. The previous teasers and trailers mostly shows what happened on the alien planet when the crew of the Prometheus got there, but the new trailer actually shows some footage of what occurred on Earth before they head out to the great unknown.
A new Promotheus trailer is coming out March 17th 4 pm PST, so, per usual, Fox wants us to know about it with a teaser. There are some new footage included in this teaser, which shows mostly what happens when the crew of the Prometheus reached their destination. And they're all bad: acid attacks, explosions, sand storms, and structural unsound buildings.
Ridley Scott is shooting his first film in 3-D, and he says he'll always use the multidimensional approach in his future films. The director appeared at Comic-Con via satellite from Iceland, where he is shooting the sci-fi thriller "Prometheus."
