Paltrow named People's Most Beautiful Woman

People magazine has named Gwyneth Paltrow as the World's Most Beautiful Woman for 2013. The 40-year-old actress tops the magazine's annual list of the "World's Most Beautiful," announced Wednesday. Commenting on her selection, Paltrow says: "Around the house, I'm in jeans and a T-shirt. I don't really wear makeup."

 

Mother Jones nominated for 4 national magazine awards

Today, the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) announced the nominees for the 2013 National Magazine Awards. We are thrilled to announce that Mother Jones has been nominated in four categories: general excellence, print; multimedia; video (for the 47 percent video); and feature writing, for Mac McClelland's "I Was A Warehouse Wage Slave" (a.k.a. "Shelf Lives"). These awards, which honor work published in 2012, are considered the Academy Awards of the industry. On May 2, editors will gather in New York City to find out the winners.

Maxim's Owners Explore Sale of Magazine

Maxim magazine, known for bawdy female swimsuit photos and off-color jokes, is for sale. Alpha Media, Maxim's parent company which is owned by a group of financial investors, said Friday it was exploring a sale of the male-oriented magazine. The move comes as Maxim has been trying to reinvent itself as a multi media outlet after years of declines in ad pages.

Time Warner said Wednesday that it'll spin off its magazine division, Time Inc., as an independent, publicly traded company later this year, ending the company's talks to sell several magazine titles to Meredith Corp.

He was the Terminator, then a governor, and now Arnold Schwarzenegger is an editor. The Los Angeles Times reports Schwarzenegger has been named executive editor of Muscle & Fitness and Flex magazines.

Newsweek ending print edition, job cuts expected

Newsweek will end its print publication after 80 years and shift to an all-digital format in early 2013. Its last U.S. print edition will be its Dec. 31 issue. The paper version of Newsweek is the latest casualty of a changing world where readers get more of their information from websites, tablets and smartphones. It's also an environment in which advertisers are looking for less expensive alternatives online.
