Ben Affleck's 'The Town' Surprises For #1; 'Easy A' #2, 'Devil' #3, 'Alpha & Omega' #5

Actor/director Ben Affleck's Warner Bros crime thriller is overperforming at the North American box office tonight. Based on Friday's $8.5M grosses, it will easily finish No. 1 this opening weekend when it was only predicted to come in 2nd. The "R"-rated movie's estimated $25+M looks like it will nearly equal the $28.6M of the same studio's October 6, 2006, Boston crime thriller The Departed directed by Martin Scorsese.

Senh: Ben Affleck is actually pretty talented. With this and "Gone Baby Gone," he proves that not only is he a decent actor, but, more importantly, he's also a great director. What a great bounce back from Gigli and Bennifer.

Box Office: 'The Last Exorcism' takes 'Takers' Friday

The Hayden Christensen-Chris Brown vehicle "Takers" came in second with a $7.5 million opening day at the box office. "The Expendables," which has won the box office title the last two weekends, finished third with $2.7 million, putting it over $75 million total.

Senh: Hurray for the guys. "The Expendables" won the box office battle this weekend. It's a fun action movie for the guys. Looks like Stallone will be cranking out more action movies. Maybe for "Expendables 2," they'll finally get Steven Seagal and Jean Claude van Damme. "Eat Pray Love" did pretty well too. Looks like Julia Roberts is back. "Scott Pilgrim vs. World" did decent considering it's more of a niche film.

'Other Guys' rings up $13.2 mil in first-day coin

'Other Guys' rings up $13.2 mil in first-day coin

Disney's 3D dance extravaganza was no match for Sony's buddy-cop comedy, which snagged $13.2 million on Friday. Sony's buddy-cop action comedy " The Other Guys," starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, sped to the top of the daily boxoffice rankings with an estimated $13.2 million from its first day in movie theaters on Friday.

Senh: It's an odd pairing, but "The Other Guys" got surprisingly good reviews. With Will Ferrell's string of box office duds lately ("Land of the Lost"), it's welcome news for him. "Step Up 3D" did ok, not nearly as well as the first two. I'm glad it's in 3D, so now studios can finally stop doing 3D conversions just to score an extra buck.
