A Hollywood legend returned to northeastern Wisconsin Thursday to help celebrate a historic milestone at the World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration.

Here’s what’s showing in Milwaukee-area movie theaters July 29-Aug. 4.

This week’s alternate movie offerings include “The Grapes of Wrath,” “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “Sun Valley Serenade.”

Here’s a look at new DVDs due for release, along with other recent and upcoming titles.

The stars come out this week at Milwaukee’s alternative movie venues, from Burt Lancaster and David Bowie to “Star Wars.”

The long-running free outdoor movie series, held in an alley in Walker’s Point, had had concerns that lighting from a nearby parking lot could stop the show for good.

Carpenter, the director behind such movies as “Halloween” and “The Thing,” also composes his own scores. He’ll be playing some of his movie music and his “Lost Themes” at the Pabst Theater July 18.
