A third fire erupted in Southern California just before 10 a.m. Tuesday, about 30 miles from Los Angeles, shutting down Interstate 5 in both directions. The fire broke out in the Rye Canyon Loop in Santa Clarita, and had grown to 500 acres by noon Tuesday. The Rye fire came on the heels of two other wildfires raging in the region: the 48,000-acre Thomas Fire in Ventura County and the 11,000-acre Creek Fire near Sylmar and Lakeview Terrace close to the Los Angeles city limits.
