WILKES-BARRE — A new service app for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area that debuts next week promises to do the grocery shopping for you — plus the company behind the app is seeking over 100 “shoppers” to handle orders. Beginning Tuesday, Instacart is launching locally to deliver orders from Wegmans, PriceRite, CVS and Petco in as little as one hour. Over 153,000 local households will have access to Instacart, the nation’s largest on-demand grocery delivery service. According to Kristen Marion of Marion PR, spokesperson for Instacart, it is a fast-growing retail delivery service whose shoppers hand-pick and deliver items from local stores. “Instacart received an overwhelming volume of requests for expansion into this region and is excited to now be delivering to the area,” Marion said. Service areas include: Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Exeter, Harding, Dupont, Avoca, Pittston, Wyoming, Hudson, Luzerne, Edwardsville, Kingston, Shavertown, Plymouth, Sugar Notch, Mountain Top, Moosic, Taylor, Old Forge, Dunmore, Clarks Summit, Chinchilla, Throop, Dickson City, Blakely, Jessup, Olyphant, Archbald, Mayfield and Carbondale. Instacart is also bringing income-earning opportunities to the area with plans to bring on more than 100 new shoppers. “Over the past year, we’ve seen incredible demand in the Scranton and Wilkes-Barre area,” said Dave Osborne, Senior Regional Director.
