The El Paso County man who pulled a gun on himself in the back of a sheriff's deputy's car Tuesday has been identified by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. Carlos Alberto Mendoza, 36, died Tuesday night from injuries sustained when he shot himself in the back of a deputy's car after an hourslong standoff. Mendoza was arrested Tuesday afternoon on suspicion of methamphetamine possession, and on the way to jail he moved his handcuffed hands from behind his back to the front of his body, according to a Sheriff's Office news release. While handcuffed, Mendoza drew a handgun and pointed it at his head.
