Move Over, Wisconsin -- The Union Battle Is Beginning In California

Axios reported on Friday that Apple CEO Tim Cook will donate $1 million to Donald Trump’s inauguration, the latest tech company figure to do so. These donations—which aren’t covered by campaign finance law and can be unlimited—signal a clear willingness to work with the Trump administration and a desire to curry favor with the once and future president.

Elon Musk has spent the last few days on X expressing his support for Reform UK, a far-right populist party founded by Brexit booster Nigel Farage. This is the second time in recent weeks Musk has used X to try to whip up support for far-right politicians outside the United States; he’s also spent a good deal of time championing Germany’s AfD party, claiming on X and in a German newspaper op-ed that the ultra-nationalist party is that country’s “only hope”—wording he also used when praising Reform.

As U. S. Rep. Lauren Boebert embarked on a fresh chapter in her political career Friday — representing a new Colorado district in Congress — she left a few legislative accomplishments to the district she led for four years, but where her prospects for reelection grew dim. Last month, the bipartisan Upper Colorado and San Juan River Basins Endangered Fish Recovery Programs Reauthorization Act became law, extending protection for four threatened and endangered native fish species on the Western Slope.

Colorado’s Democratic leaders promised Friday to keep plugging away at the state’s affordability crisis when they gavel the legislature back into session next week — but the cost of living is just one of a slew of issues they’ll contend with in the coming months. The majority Democrats are also bracing for challenges during a second Trump administration.
