In the final three months of 2015 Hawaii had a homeownership rate of just 61.5 percent, which is below the national average of 63.8. However, both national and Hawaii rates could rise in the coming years as Fannie Mae has created a new product to lift homeownership rates. The homeownership rate in Hawaii grew from 61.2 at the beginning of 2015 to 61.5 percent at the end, according to data from the U.S.
