STAMFORD-Dubbed the deadwood docket, prosecutors and Stamford courthouse clerks are jettisoning well over one thousand old failure to appear arrest warrants for people the police cannot find. [...] 500 of the cases have been tossed with more to come as the criminal clerk’s office waits for interns to help them with the associated paperwork needed to purge the remaining cases. The mass dumping of old Stamford, Norwalk and Greenwich cases raised hopes in one New York City family that a long-lost nephew was still alive. Stamford courthouse lead public defender Barry Butler, who named the long list of cases the deadwood docket, said he received a call Monday from a New York City Legal Aid attorney asking if Cheri Chisholm was showing up to court on Monday. Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney Steven Weiss said all the cases involve low level misdemeanors like being drunk and disorderly, breach of peace, possession of marijuana and minor larceny offenses.
