M. SMITH By Michaela Gibson Morris Daily Journal TUPELO – Cattle broker Mike Smith was leading incumbent Lee County District 2 Supevisor Bobby Smith with one box still out at press time Tuesday night. Mike Smith had 1,545 votes to Bobby Smith’s 1,114 with unofficial returns in the Republican primary. The Saltillo precinct was still being tallied as of press time Tuesday because of a technical problem with the voting machine that prevented the completion of that count. “Whoever wins, I hope it turns out for the best for the people of the district and Lee County,” said Mike Smith. Tuesday’s vote effectively decides the race because there are no Democrats or independents who qualified for the district, which stretches from the north side of Tupelo to the northwest corner of the county, including most of Saltillo and parts of Guntown. “We’ve got no regrets,” said Bobby Smith, 71, who has represented the district since 2000.
