MAYPORT | After a two-month absence, the St. Johns River ferry has returned. On Jan. 5, the ferry stopped operation while its two engines were rebuilt its and it underwent other maintenance. On Tuesday, with newly painted lanes and a new Jacksonville Transportation Authority logos, the ferry once more carried passengers across the river, saving them from taking the Dames Point Bridge on a 23-mile detour.
