A proposal to use about $321,000 for sidewalk and parking lot improvements after the closeout of Marengo's Revolving Loan Fund will be up for discussion during Monday's City Council meeting. Under state requirements, the city had to close the fund in January. After reviewing the eligibility requirements of potential projects, staff recommended the submittal of downtown sidewalk and parking lot projects. Engineering firm HR Green estimates that repairs to the sidewalk on Route 23 between Grant Highway and Municipal Drive will cost about $137,000; repairs to the side street sidewalks on Grant Highway, Washington Street and Prairie Street will cost about $134,000; and improvements to the Taylor Street sidewalk will be about $26,000. Repairs to a lot on the corner of Ann and Washington streets for about $25,000, a lot off Washington Street for $6,000 and the lot behind City Hall for $99,000 also are up for consideration. Excluding work on the City Hall parking lot, these projects would total about $328,000.
