A new and possibly less contentious era started Tuesday for the Broward School Board, as two new and three returning members were sworn in for new terms.
During a ceremony at Dillard High in Fort Lauderdale, board members pledged to focus more on student achievement and less on political differences in the coming years.
Joining the board are recently elected board members Maura Bulman, who represents the Hollywood area, and Rebecca Thompson, who represents the Pembroke Pines and Miramar areas.
Three board members were reelected: Sarah Leonardi and Jeff Holness of the Fort Lauderdale area, and countywide member Debbi Hixon.
All were elected in August to four-year terms except for Bulman, whose term will end in 2026.
The five join four board members who still have two more years on their terms: Lori Alhadeff, Brend Fam, Nora Rupert and Allen Zeman.
It’s the first time since May 2022 that the board will include no appointees from Gov.
