Man Accused Of Killing Auburn Athlete Pleads Not Guilty

OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) — A man accused of killing an Auburn University football player has pleaded not guilty to murder. Markale Deandre Hart waived arraignment Thursday in Lee County District Court through his attorney. He entered his plea in court filings. Hart was indicted in October for the shooting of 18-year-old Jakell Mitchell at an off-campus apartment in December 2014. He is being held in the Limestone Correctional Facility on a parole violation. Defense attorney Jerry Blevins said Hart shot Mitchell in self-defense. Hart's trial is scheduled for February 2016. ___ Information from The Alabama Media group: www.al.com
