ROME — A 16-year-old boy who was rescued from a Maine pond and rushed to a hospital in critical condition has died. Jeffrey Pepin, 16, of Chesterville would have been entering his senior year at Mount Blue High School in the fall, the Sun Journal reported. Officials say he was swimming with two friends Thursday at Great Pond in Rome and went under as they were trying to swim from a boat back to Crooked Island. Fire officials say it took between 15 and 20 minutes for his friends to find and get him out of the water.
