Linn County officials are gearing up for what is expected to be flooding along the Cedar River more than eight feet above major flood stage. The Linn County Board of Supervisors have scheduled a special meeting for noon Friday at the Jean Oxley Public Service Center, 935 Second St. SW, to designate county risk manager Steve Estenson as the county’s temporary incident commander for the impending flood event. As risk manager, Estenson would have authority to act on behalf of the county and coordinate department response needs. In addition, the board is scheduled to approve emergency procurement authority — which essentially gives designated county officials the power to make purchases necessary for responsive measures related to the flooding event, within policy limits set in county policy.County officials will continue to monitor river levels, and Joi Alexander, county communications director, said additional information will be available later Thursday afternoon.Alexander added that county departments are taking steps to protect county resources and assets, including stored record books and fleet vehicles.
