The ritzy municipality of Cherry Hills Village has objected to a rezoning that could put income-restricted apartments at its doorstep. “We have very serious concerns that you’re stranding low-income families on an island between I-25, a four-lane arterial, with no access to medical care, no access to grocery stores and no access to transit,” Cherry Hills Mayor Katy Brown said at a Denver Planning Board meeting this month. Brown also sent a six-page letter to Denver officials dated June 12 opposing the rezoning of 4340-4350 S.

State officials announced nearly $40 million in preliminary awards to build more than 600 subsidized housing units for lower- and middle-income Coloradans on Wednesday, using some of the first full year of funding from a new statewide affordable housing program. The money is set to help finance developments in Denver, Lone Tree, Fort Collins, Montrose and Craig.

Denver police on Tuesday arrested a 14-year-old boy suspected of fatally shooting a man near 29th and Larimer streets in the city’s River North Arts District on July 10. Steven Marquez was arrested in Casper, Wyoming on suspicion of first-degree murder in the death of Todd Kidd in RiNo, the Denver Police Department said in a news release Wednesday.  Kidd intervened in a disturbance at about 6:40 p.m.

Monthly premiums could increase 4% next year for Colorado Option health insurance plans and 6% for other types of plans sold on the individual marketplace, on average, according to new data from the state Division of Insurance. The Colorado Option is a standardized health plan that covers more services without out-of-pocket costs than the average plan.
