By Phil Kabler House Speaker Tim Armstead, R-Kanawha, said the Legislature is working with the Tomblin administration to determine if any legislative action is needed in response to Monday's CSX oil train derailment in Fayette County."It's obviously a concern, and we want to talk to the administration to see if they have any legislative proposals as they assess what happened," Armstead said.Meanwhile, Senate Transportation Chairman Chris Walters, R-Putnam, said he believes the Legislature needs to conduct a study of transportation of potentially hazardous materials in the state in light of recent events, including Monday's CSX oil train derailment, and a diesel tanker truck accident last month in Greenbrier County that contaminated the water supply for the city of Lewisburg."With this derailment, and with the diesel spill into the river near Lewisburg a few weeks ago, a look at our transportation system and the possibility of even more spills is something we should consider," Walters said.
