Lake in the Hills trustees will vote on a proposal Thursday that could allow a Speedway gas station to change its liquor license to allow people to drink beer while on-site. The intent is to allow the gas station, 2700 W. Algonquin Road, to have video gaming machines. The Illinois Video Gaming Board requires that gaming sites either serve alcohol or be a truck stop. Speedway representative Rachel Shurr said the station would be remodeled to create a wall that blocks off the five terminals and creates an age-restricted gaming room. The area would have a self-contained wall with a locking door visible from the register area, Shurr said. People could buy two beers – 12-ounce Miller Lite and Coors Light cans at $4 apiece – from a locked cooler.
