For Kid Rock, The Simpler '70s Rule

The calendar says 2011, but for Kid Rock, it's forever the 1970s. Friday at a nearly packed First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre, the Detroit singer successfully resurrected the arena-rock decade's carefree thrills and anthemic sounds. Fittingly, the 130-minute concert commenced with an onscreen montage highlighting Rock's 1971 birth year. Aside from prerecorded video greetings by contemporary celebrities like Conan O'Brien, little else from the pyrotechnic extravaganza suggested we currently live in an era of smartphones.
